It's Not All About Photography

hey everyone, i've decided to add a little feature section on the right hand column of the blog here. i'll call it "exposure" for lack of any other cheesy camera cliche. the reason is that i often get inspired by things other than photography in my day-to-day life and like to share them with like-minded individuals like yourself! i will change it up whenever i feel inspired, and the first installment is about Johnathan Goodwin. it just ties so deeply into all the things that i think are broken about how we live our lives and the havoc we're wreaking on the planet! Johnathan seems to be fighting the good fight.

enjoy,
scott

Black White

i've been working on a new series of images that i have gotten very excited about. the series defines for me a new direction and purpose that i haven't had in my young career as a fine figure photographer. the images contrast each other with alternating figures set against deep black backgrounds and light white luminous backgrounds. the inspiration has come over several months of experimentation with lighting and the really strong images that have come out of these experiments.

i've also been very fortunate to have gotten a lot of interest from models that i enjoy working with who are willing to help me realize this vision. i hope to complete this portfolio close to the end of 2007 or very early in 2008. once i have finished with this series, i will most likely take a hiatus from shooting, at least for a few weeks. this will help me to organize both my summer landscape series as well as this portfolio. hopefully at that point, i will be able to find a gallery willing to show the works.

in the meantime, work will continue on creating images for this portfolio this weekend as rebecca will be posing for me on saturday and candace and amber will be posing together for me on monday.

Featured in France

apparently, i've been featured in Chris St. James' blog about fine art figure photography.

chris also asked me if i would like to be interviewed for his blog and i submitted a bunch of carefully thought out responses... hope i don't come off sounding like a nerd! when he posts the interview i'll link to it here.

Chris St. James is an editor for Carrie Leigh's NUDE Magazine, which looks to be a promising fine art figure magazine. i would really like to get my hands on a copy, if only to see the print quality. then there's the idea of getting some of my stuff published there as well...

October Print Sale - Benefits Breast Cancer Research

A limited selection of prints will be available for purchase during the month of October.

I find myself in a curious position this year. A little while ago a photographer friend of mine asked if I would volunteer to help shoot the Women's 5K Classic run to raise money that would benefit Breast Cancer research. My mother fought and won (for now, at least...) a battle with breast cancer and my high school sweetheart lost her battle with the disease this past summer at the young age of 38! So when I was asked to help, my immediate reaction was, "Of course!". And while I am happy to participate in this event, I found myself asking, what more could I do? I thought of having a print sale to try to raise money for Breast Cancer research. Education and early detection are some of the best ways to fight this disease, but all of these methods require money.

So accordingly, I have chosen to make a selection of my work available here for purchase. The images I have chosen truly represent the beauty and strength of the female human form. I hope that these images inspire you to purchase one of them to support this amazing cause.

50% of the proceeds from each print sale will be donated to the Susan G Komen Foundation which aims to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures.

To purchase one of these prints, please visit this site or click on one of the photos. Thanks for your help and support.
